Layer 09

Managed Application

We don't just run the platform, we run your application too — code, deployments, further development

The innermost layer: HOST SMITH takes responsibility for your application itself — not just for everything below it. We maintain the code, look after releases and deployments, fix bugs, keep dependencies up to date and keep developing when new requirements come up. Your application gets a team that understands it — instead of a ticket that lands somewhere.

That is exactly what we do today for a number of customers: as Managed Application, as CTO as a Service, as DevOps as a Service or as classic software development. Layers 01–08 are included — cluster, firewall, edge, containers, orchestration and managed services from one source, with the application on top. Development happens in our product forge Ambos Development, found at ja-developer.de.

Application operations

Releases, rollbacks, hotfixes, dependency updates, application-level monitoring — we are responsible for how your software behaves, not just for the server below it.

Further development

New features, refactorings, performance work, interfaces — planned in sprints or as an ongoing contingent, with code reviews and documentation.

An SLA down to the code

On this layer the SLA doesn't stop at the deploy UI: response times apply to the application itself — a bug in your software is our incident.

Three ways into layer 09

Your application, our team.

Managed Application is not an off-the-shelf package. You decide how much responsibility we take on: the technical leadership, the operations or the development itself — or all of it together.

CTO as a Service

Technical leadership on call: architecture decisions, technology selection, team building, code reviews, budget and roadmap planning — as a sparring partner for management, by the day or on retainer.

DevOps as a Service

We are your DevOps department: CI/CD pipelines, deployments, environments, monitoring, incident response — for your application on our layers or in your existing environment.

Software development

New applications, further development and taking over existing systems — web platforms, APIs, backends and integrations, from idea to operation. Delivered by our product forge Ambos Development.

Consulting with attitude included

Advice that comes from the engine room.

We grew out of a product forge and have been building our own platforms for years — web applications, APIs and backends, on Linux as well as Windows environments. We offer that experience as a team on time: technical leadership, operations and development — as much or as little as you need.

Taking over existing applications

Agency gone, developer left, codebase without docs? We get up to speed, secure operations, clean up — and then take over responsibility permanently.

Technical roadmap

Where does the application need to be in twelve months, what is paying down debt, what is a feature? We prioritise with you — soberly and with an eye on operating costs.

Team on time

A developer for three months, a CTO for two days a week, a DevOps engineer for the migration — we provide capacity that complements your team instead of replacing it.

Individual quote

Request layer 09 now.

There is no configurator for Managed Application — every application is different. We look at your codebase, your team and your goals and make a quote with a clear scope: as a monthly retainer, as an hour contingent or per project.

1. Getting to know each other

30 minutes: what runs today, where does it hurt, what should be different in a year?

2. Technical look

We look at repository, deployments and infrastructure — under NDA, without obligation.

3. Quote

Scope, response times and monthly price on one page — understandable, without fine print.
